22 JBT teachers recruited, Cabinet Minister Lal Jit Bhullar sent joining letter
Chandigarh: No problem will be allowed in the education of children below the age of six years of women prisoners lodged in Punjab jails. The Jail Department has recruited 22 JBT teachers for the jails for the first time. Out of these, 15 have been given appointment letters today, while the process of giving appointment letters to seven will be completed soon.
Cabinet Minister Lal Jit Bhullar has given them appointment letters. The minister said that it will play an important role in educating prisoners and their children and integrating prisoners into the mainstream of society.
Regular recruitment after 30 years
The government has made regular recruitment to these posts after three decades. The newly appointed teachers have been posted near their homes, so that they can perform their duties easily. Under the recruitment process, 738 wardens and 25 matrons have already taken up their duties. Apart from this, the recruitment process is going on for 179 posts of guard staff including 175 wardens and 4 matrons. 1220 posts of different cadres are being recreated in the Jail Department, the recruitment process of which will be started soon.
2200 prisoners are taking various courses
Under the educational projects running in the jails, 2200 prisoners are doing various educational courses. Meanwhile, under the Punjab Skill Development Mission, 513 prisoners will be given skill training in various courses including electrician, plumber and tailoring from January 2025. Bhullar said that in just 33 months, about 50, 000 youth have been provided regular government jobs. The government has provided employment to 2, 65, 430 candidates in the private sector.
