The Punjab State Election Commission on Sunday announced general elections and by-elections for various municipal corporations and nagar councils/panchayats in the state.
Punjab State Election Commissioner Kamal Chaudhary informed that the polls will be held on December 21. The results will be announced on December.
The schedule is as follows -
Filing of nomination starts on Dec 9 from 11 am to 3 pm
Last date for filing nomination is Dec 12 till 3 pm
Scrutiny on December 13
Last date for withdrawal of nomination on Dec 14
Polling on Dec 21.
Counting will start on the same day after polling.
He informed that the by-elections for local bodies and elections for five municipal corporations (MCs having total 381 wards)— Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Phagwara would be held on Dec 21.
He added that nearly 3732000 total voters of the state will cast their votes for these polls. The polling will be done through EVMs. The polling time will be from 7 am to 4 pm. Adequate security arrangements of the police will be done to maintain law and order in all areas.
The expenditure limit for candidates has been set as -
4 lakh for Municipal corporation
3.6 lakh for municipal councils (class 1)
2.3 lakh for municipal councils (class 2)
2 lakh for municipal councils (class 3)
1.4 lakh for nagar panchayats
With this announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced in the respective cities of Punjab.
