Surrey hosts the largest Nagar Kirtan in April each year, organized by the Dashmesh Darbar Gurdwara. In 2025, the event took place on April 19. Unfortunately, the night before the celebration, the Laxmi Narayan Mandir on 140th Street in Surrey was vandalized by individuals linked to a Khalistani group. The walls and gates of the mandir were defaced with pro-Khalistan slogans. This act, widely condemned as racist and divisive, is not an isolated incident—other mandirs in the Lower Mainland have also been targeted in similar ways in the past. Both the Hindu and Sikh communities have expressed frustration and concern over these repeated acts of vandalism, according to the Managing Director, Maninder Gill of Radio India.
