Jeevay Sanjha Punjab (JSP), a heritage preservation initiative, has rediscovered the site of Gurdwara Jhallian, a historical Sikh shrine abandoned in 1947 during the partition of Punjab.
This Gurdwara Sahib, visited by Siri Hargobind Sahib, is located in village Jhallian near Lahore.
The building is now gone but some remnants remain. The bricks of the Gurdwara were used to construct the foundations of the local school on the property.
This remarkable discovery was made possible through JSP's meticulous research of pre-1947 historical records in Gurmukhi and consultations with local elders.
The rediscovery of Gurdwara Jhallian is part of JSP's broader mission to locate Sikh shrines that have been "lost in memory" since the partition. Over the past few years, JSP has successfully identified approximately 15 such historical sites in the Lahore district, all linked to Sikh Gurus. These efforts aim to bring these sacred sites back into the collective memory of the Sikh community and preserve their historical significance for future generations.
