Revenue Officers to Go on Indefinite Strike from Tuesday, January 14; Registrations to Halt if Demands Aren’t Met in Three Days

January 11, 2025 02:09 PM

At a press conference held at Chandigarh Press Club, Punjab Revenue Officers Association President Sukhcharan Singh Channi announced that revenue officers will go on an indefinite strike starting Tuesday, January 14. The decision has been taken in protest against the government’s alleged negligence in addressing their concerns, particularly the alleged illegal arrest of the association’s president, Sukhcharan Singh Channi.

The association has given the government a three-day ultimatum following a meeting with the Revenue Minister. If the government fails to provide a written update on the inquiry into the matter within this timeframe, all registration services across Punjab will be halted.

The Punjab Revenue Officers Association expressed serious concerns over the unfair treatment they claim to have received from the government. They feel that their grievances have been ignored, leaving them with no other recourse.

President Channi stated that repeated attempts to resolve the matter through dialogue with the government have yielded no satisfactory outcomes. He emphasized that the association is compelled to take this extreme step and acknowledged the inconvenience the strike may cause to the public. However, he stressed that they have no alternative left.

The association’s primary demand is for justice regarding the president’s arrest. The indefinite strike is expected to disrupt critical revenue-related services across Punjab, increasing pressure on the administration to resolve the issue promptly.
